The Talladega College men's basketball team opened their season on the road Wednesday afternoon, showing grit and teamwork in a competitive matchup that came down to the final minutes.
The Tornadoes (0–1) fought through a back-and-forth first half, trailing by just one point at the break before making a strong push in the second half.
Senior guard Tre Simmons led Talladega with 15 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Arthur Williams added 14 points and two steals, while Eric Howard Jr. filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.
The Tornadoes shared the ball well, finishing with 16 assists and earning 23 points from their bench. Ethan Smith scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds, while Isaiah Mayes contributed eight points and two assists.
Talladega showed balance on both ends of the floor, scoring 32 points in the paint and forcing turnovers that led to fast-break opportunities.
The Tornadoes will look to bounce back when they return home for Homecoming on Saturday, November 8, to face Philander Smith College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
