Nastario Williams added one final event to the 'Dega schedule for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Williams, who had already qualified for the Championships in two other events, was able to add a long jump mark of 7.24 meters which qualified him in the long jump as well. The qualification puts a 'Dega athlete in the field events as well, marking the lone field entry for the Tornadoes to go along with seven track events.Â
The Tornadoes' junior had already qualified for the Championships in the 100 and 200-meter dash events, as well as in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays, and he will now participate in five different events. Teammates
Emmanuel Niang,
Christian Louis, and
Jonathan Meadows will join him at the NAIA Championships.
Also on Friday, the 'Dega Track team was represented on the Southern States Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Team. The team consisted of 11 athletes from six SSAC institutions. To be eligible, athletes must have had a standing of sophomore or higher both academically and athletically, they must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, and they must have participated in at least 50% of team competitions during the competition season. Meadows was the Tornadoes' representative on the list, and he was one of only four student-athletes to post NAIA Championship qualifying marks who met the academic criteria as well.
The Tornadoes will head to the NAIA Championships next, which will begin held from May 24-26 in Mobile, Alabama.
