Talladega men grab second at HBCUAC Outdoor Championships

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Talladega men's track team closed out the HBCUAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday, finishing the weekend in second place as a team. Voorhees took home the team title, while the Tornadoes finished nearly 50 points ahead of third-place Dillard.
 
Jaylen Haynes set a new PR in the hammer throw behind a distance of 38.89m (127' 7") en route to a third-place individual finish. Teammates Danrick Robinson (34.17m/112' 1") and Eusebio Hernandez (30.20m/99' 1") added new personal-bests of their own, coming in seventh and eighth respectively.
 
Stephon May took home seventh place in the triple jump, doing so with a mark of 12.61m (41' 4½") as the only Tornado athlete in the field. May followed with third place in the high jump, earning six more points toward the team total with a jump of 1.88m (6' 2").
 
Talladega dominated in the final field event of the weekend, as Hernandez (14.60m/47 10¾"), Robinson (13.80m/45' 3½") and Haynes (13.50m/44' 3½") took three of the top four sports in the shot put. The marks of both Hernandez and Haynes were good enough for new PRs.
 
On the track, Decquan Nisbett (4:27.92) and Isaiah Millet (4:28.78) turned in a 1-2 finish in the 1500, giving the Tornadoes their first event win of the day. Jaedon Chambers followed with a third-place time of 10.70 in the 100 finals, with Anthony Gentles (10.98) and Christian Louis (11.12) rounding out the top eight.
 
Arlen Epps (48.93) produced a new PR on his way to second place in the 400, and his time is good enough for 60th in the nation. Jason Ivey II came up with a PR of his own, doing so with a sixth-place time of 49.76.
 
Dominic Bruce (1:02.81) and Jalen Smeins (1:05.16) came in seventh and eighth respectively in the 400 hurdles, with both setting a new personal-best along the way. Nisbett (2:03.20) found himself in third place in the 800, while Millet (2:06.38) and Ivey (2:07.09) gave the Tornadoes half of the top six individuals across the finish.
 
Chambers turned in a stellar performance in the 200 finals, as his time of 21.46 was good enough for second place as well as 17th in the nation. Louis (21.92) followed in fourth, holding off a threat from Gavin Smith of Philander Smith.
 
In the 5K, Nisbett (19:27.35) picked up a new PR to take second place, while Millet rounded out the top three with a mark of 19:34.42.    
 
Talladega turned in their best performance of the season in the men's 4x400 relay, as the group of Epps, Ivey, Louis and Chambers teamed up for a second-place time of 3:17.57 to close out the weekend on a high note.
 
The Tornadoes are set to close out the season on April 27, when they take part in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama.
