The Talladega College track and field teams delivered an impressive performance on Sunday at the KMS Invitational, held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, highlighted by multiple event victories, personal bests, and school records.
The Tornadoes claimed first-place finishes in four events, led by Lamoy Duffus and Anthony Gentles in the 60-meter dash, Aliana Taylor in the 60-meter hurdles, and Jaylen Haynes in the men's shot put. Talladega athletes also recorded six total personal best marks on the day, including two by the men's squad and four by the Lady Tornadoes.
Anthony Gentles turned in one of the meet's standout performances, winning the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 6.81 seconds. The mark also established a new Talladega College school record, surpassing the previous record held by teammate Christian Louis.
Lamoy Duffus continued the strong showing for the Lady Tornadoes, capturing first place in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.77 seconds. Duffus also finished second in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 25.00 seconds—just .01 seconds shy of the NAIA "B" standard national qualifying mark of 24.99. Both performances set new school records.
In the field events, Jaylen Haynes claimed first place in the men's shot put with a personal-best throw of 13.98 meters. Teammates Danrick and Eusebio followed closely behind, adding to Talladega's strong overall finish.
The meet also showcased the impact of Talladega's freshman class, as several newcomers set new standards for the program. Darryl Cannie established a new school record in the long jump, while JaQualan Whitaker set the indoor school record in the 400 meters.
"The ladies and men on this team did a fantastic job today," said head coach Junior Gaitor. "I'm extremely proud of them and looking forward to what's next as we continue to put on display what the New Dega is about."
Talladega will look to build on the momentum from Birmingham as the Tornadoes continue their indoor season.
