Dega Men's Track Qualifies for NAIA National Championships in the 4x400 meter relay

Men's Track and Field

Outdoor Track Season Kicks into High Gear at Emory

ATLANTA - The Tallaedga College continues their Outdoor Track and Field season on Saturday with a trip east to the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Saturday afternoon and the Tornadoes continued to carry the momentum that they built in the indoor season in to the outdoor portion of the calendar.

Talladega was the highest scoring men's team among NAIA competitors, and they finished seventh overall out of 22 teams competing. On the women's side, The Tornadoes were fifth among NAIA teams.

The biggest highlight of the day actually came near the end of the meet. The 'Dega men's 4x400-meter relay team posted an program record time of 3:17.25 that also hit the NAIA "B" qualifying standard and punched their ticket to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Indiana in May. The effort came as they also won the event, and it also came shortly after the 'Dega 4x100 relay team hit the NAIA "A" standard for the second week in a row, this time with a time of 41.11 seconds. Individually, Emmanuel Niang continued his outstanding season by hurdling his way to victory in the 110-meter hurdles, where he posted a time of 14.38 seconds, and Christian Louis grabbed a second place finish for the Tornadoes in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.70 seconds was good for second overall and first among attached runners in the event.

The Tornadoes will be back in action next weekend at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Spring Invitational.
