Talladega Beats Mobile 95-87

TALLADEGA, AL - Talladega College was back to its winning ways Thursday night, Jan., 20, taking down the University of Mobile, 95-87, inside Dr. Hawkins Student Activity Center to end a four-game skid. The win keeps Talladega atop the Southern States Athletic Conference women's basketball standings, a half-game in front of No. 24 Loyola University.


All five starters scored in double figures for the first time this season, as the Tornadoes produced its highest in-conference point total since joining the SSAC. Talladega opened the game on a 7-0 run and led throughout the game with the exception of four ties in the first half. 

Shooting 55.6% in the opening quarter and 60% in the second, Talladega carried a six-point lead into halftime, 48-42. That margin held up in the second half with the Tornadoes only out-scoring the Rams, 47-45 in the final 20 minutes. 

Sydni Tears led Talladega with 16 points. Tierra Tullis had 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Anyia Pride and Fu'Tra Banks each scored 12 and Kameron Shelley had 10 points to round out the starting five. Kendall Weary was the sixth player to score in double figures with 14 points off the bench. Banks led Talladega's rebounding effort with nine. 

Talladega (13-5, 5-2 SSAC) will host Faulkner University (8-8, 1-3 SSAC) on Saturday, Jan. 22 at noon.
