Talladega Edges Mobile 69–68 on Myers’ Buzzer Beater

Box Score

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's basketball team earned a dramatic 69–68 win over the University of Mobile on Monday night inside the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center. The victory showcased resilience, defensive toughness, and late-game execution as the Tornadoes overcame a slow start to secure a second straight win.

Talladega struggled early, falling behind 21–11 after the first quarter before closing the gap to 42–32 at halftime. The Tornadoes flipped the game in the third quarter, outscoring Mobile 22–12 and shifting momentum with paint touches, defensive pressure, and second-chance opportunities.

The closing minutes featured multiple lead changes, timeouts, and defensive stops as both teams traded opportunities in a tense fourth quarter. Talladega's defense ultimately made the difference, forcing 25 turnovers and turning them into 20 points, which proved critical in a one-point finish.

Junior forward Ceara Myers posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, to anchor the Tornadoes' interior attack. Olympia Chaney led all scorers with 15 points, while Courtney Lowe contributed 13 points, including two three-pointers. Talladega also received key production off the bench, as reserves combined for 34 points in the win.

The game's decisive moment came in the closing seconds. After Mobile briefly took the lead on a free throw with under a minute remaining, Talladega earned multiple late possessions. With the game tied in the final seconds, Myers secured an offensive rebound and scored a layup as time expired, delivering the 69–68 victory at the buzzer.

Talladega dominated the paint with 40 points inside, out-working Mobile on the glass and generating high-percentage offense throughout the second half.

Head Coach Andre Payne praised his team's fight and the home crowd's impact, while emphasizing the importance of cleaner offensive starts moving forward. "I'm proud of the team because we never stopped playing hard. Finally the ball bounced our way. We have to do a better job of scoring at the beginning so that we don't have to rely so much on our defense. I want to thank the fans for their support. They were the sixth man on the court for us."

With the win, Talladega improves to 6–1 on the season and continues its strong early-season momentum.

Talladega will return to action on Thursday when they host Rust College in a conference matchup inside the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
