From Tornado Player to Award-Winning Coach: Jorge Rodriguez-Mangual Continues to Impact Talladega Baseball

Few individuals embody the spirit of Talladega College Baseball quite like Assistant Coach Jorge Rodriguez-Mangual.

Now entering his fifth year on the Tornadoes coaching staff, Rodriguez-Mangual has become an integral part of one of the most successful eras in program history. His journey from student-athlete to assistant coach reflects his dedication to Talladega College, the game of baseball, and the development of student-athletes both on and off the field.

A native of Coamo, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez-Mangual first made his mark as a member of the Tornado Baseball program, where he played four seasons under Head Coach Marcos Dominguez. During his playing career, he helped establish a culture of hard work, accountability, and excellence that continues to define the program today.

Following his graduation from Talladega College, Rodriguez-Mangual remained with the program and transitioned into a coaching role, bringing with him firsthand knowledge of what it means to be a Tornado. His experience as both a former player and coach has allowed him to build strong relationships with student-athletes while helping guide them through their collegiate careers.

Over the past five years, Rodriguez-Mangual has played a significant role in the growth and success of Talladega Baseball. His contributions in player development, recruiting, and day-to-day operations have helped the Tornadoes capture multiple championships, including two HBCU Athletic Conference Regular Season Championships, two HBCU Athletic Conference Tournament Championships, and a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

His commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2025, Rodriguez-Mangual was recognized as the HBCU Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year, an honor that reflects both his impact on the field and his dedication to the student-athletes he serves.

While championships and awards highlight his accomplishments, Rodriguez-Mangual's greatest influence can be seen in the players he mentors. He is passionate about helping student-athletes grow as competitors, students, and future leaders. His ability to connect with players and provide guidance has made him a respected figure within the program and across the conference.

As Talladega Baseball continues to build upon its success, Rodriguez-Mangual remains committed to developing championship-caliber athletes and individuals. His journey from Tornado player to award-winning coach serves as a testament to the opportunities available at Talladega College and the lasting impact of investing in student-athlete success.

For Rodriguez-Mangual, Talladega College is more than where he played and coached—it is home. And through his leadership, passion, and dedication, he continues to leave a lasting legacy on the Tornado Baseball program.
