Talladega College baseball continues to make a strong statement as the 2026 season progresses, rising to No. 3 in the latest HBCU small school national poll. The Tornadoes made one of the biggest jumps in the rankings, moving up from No. 8 to No. 3, reflecting their consistent performance and growing momentum on the field.
The poll is determined by a knowledgeable and diverse voting committee made up of college athletic administrators, educators, baseball writers, media members, former players, and dedicated fans of the game. This group closely follows college baseball across all levels, with a specific focus on promoting and recognizing excellence within Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) baseball.
Talladega's rise comes in a competitive "small school" division that includes programs from NCAA Division II, NAIA, NCCAA, and USCAA institutions. The division features 38 HBCU programs, making it one of the most competitive landscapes in collegiate baseball.
Albany State University holds the No. 1 position for the second consecutive poll, while Florida Memorial University sits at No. 2. Talladega now claims the No. 3 spot, followed by Huston-Tillotson University at No. 4 and Edward Waters University, which moved up to No. 5.
The Tornadoes' climb in the rankings is a direct result of their strong play throughout the season, highlighted by dominant performances in conference play and key series wins. Their ability to produce offensively while maintaining solid pitching has positioned them as one of the top programs in HBCU baseball this year.
With the postseason approaching, Talladega College is firmly in the national conversation and continues to build its case as a championship contender.
