Box Score 2 OXFORD, Ala. – The Talladega softball team wrapped up a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, dropping the opener against Oakwood 5-1 before taking the nightcap by a tally of 6-3. The win snaps a four-game losing skid for the Tornadoes, who will look for their second HBCUAC series win of the season on Saturday.
Both teams scored in the first inning, but a four-spot from Oakwood in the fifth inning ended up being the difference in Game 1.
The top four in the Talladega order did the damage, as Sofia McPhie, Emma Givens and Mia Vasquez each sparked two hits with Addison Fields driving in the team's lone run. Sofi Wagner-Stiles was hit with the loss in the circle despite going the distance and fanning five Oakwood hitters.
Oakwood struck first in the nightcap, but Talladega responded with two runs in the home half to take the final lead of the day. The Tornadoes exploded for four runs in the following frame, tacking on all the insurance they would need.
McPhie went right back to work in Game 2, coming up with another multi-hit performance, while teammate Miani Burton added two of her own to go with a pair of RBI.
Miranda Butler overcame ten Oakwood hits, but managed to get the win without surrendering an earned run.
The series wraps up on Monday from Oxford, with first pitch of the rubber match slated for 7:00 p.m.
