Tornadoes Earn First Conference Win in Home Opening Series

Talladega College softball opened conference play at home this weekend, competing with resilience and grit in its first HBCUAC series of the season against Wiley. The Tornadoes split Sunday's doubleheader before closing the series Monday afternoon.

After falling 11-4 in Sunday's opener, Talladega responded in impressive fashion in Game 2. The Tornadoes struck early with a three-run second inning as Dashya Montgomery delivered a clutch two-run single, and Josie Harshberg followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to shift the momentum.

With the game tightening late, Talladega executed in the biggest moments. Yasmin Harmon came through in the seventh inning with a key RBI double that proved to be the difference in a 6-5 victory, securing the Tornadoes' first conference win of the season in front of the home crowd.

In the circle, Marion Tate was steady in relief, controlling the tempo over the final four innings to earn the win and preserve the late lead. Her composure and command helped Talladega close out the tightly contested matchup.

In Monday's series finale, Wiley claimed a 9-3 decision, but Talladega continued to battle. The Tornadoes plated two runs in the fourth inning and added another in the seventh, showing continued offensive production and competitive energy throughout the lineup.

The weekend marked an important step for Talladega as the Tornadoes opened conference play at home and captured a key HBCUAC victory to build momentum moving forward.
