The Talladega Men's Track and Field team sits in second place after the first day of the GCAC Track and Field Championship. With 5 of 18 events completed, the Tornadoes have 54 points, 12 behind day 1 leader Dillard.
Talladega earned a top-three podium finish in all but one of the day's five events, with
Jaedon Chambers, Jaylen Haynes, and
Nastario Williams finishing second in their respective events, 200m, Discus Throw, and Javelin Throw. In fact, Talladega's best event o the day came at the discus throw where Haynes, Danrick Robinson, and Eusebio Hernandez finished second, third, and fourth to give the Tornadoes 19 championship points.
Stephon May was the final athlete to podium as he posted a third-place finish in Long Jump, clearing 6.61 meters. Isiah Bain finished 8th in long jump and was one of two Talladega track athletes to earn points in multiple events as he also finished seventh in the 200m while May added a 7th place finish in javelin to his third place from long jump.
The second and final day of the GCAC Championship is tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th.
