Dega Finishes Third in 2023 Black College Nines HBCU Small College Top Ten

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Talladega College baseball team continued to earn accolades as the squad placed third in the final Black College Nines HBCU Top Ten of the 2023 season in the Small School poll.
 
The Tornadoes (28-18) started the season unranked before vaulting to fourth in the March 7 poll. Dega moved to third in the March 21 poll but fell back to fourth on April 18. However, Talladega never dropped below third after attaining the position again on April 25.
 
The Florida Memorial University Lions were crowned the 2023 Black College World Series Champions with a thrilling 5-4 victory in 19 innings.
 
The Lions defeated Albany State in the Black College World Series championship game at Riverwalk Stadium on May 13, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama, climbed into the top spot, and ultimately became the small school champion.
 
The voting committee comprises an informed and impartial group of individuals who follow college baseball on all levels, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) baseball. The group includes college athletic administrators and educators, college baseball writers and other sports journalists and broadcasters, former HBCU and other college ballplayers, and above all else, college baseball enthusiasts interested in promoting HBCU baseball.
 
Champions are named into two divisions the "large school" division will be composed of the 17 HBCU schools representing NCAA Division I, and the "small school" division will be made up of the 35 HBCU schools with NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NCCAA status.
 
Black College Nines HBCU, Baseball Ranking Committee, determines the Top 10 rankings for large and small schools.
 
Records indicated are through May 29.
