Gates and Williams Earn SSAC Outdoor T&F Weekly Honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Talladega College track and field programs brought home Southern States Athletic Conference honors as Josephine was named SSAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, and Nastario Williams was named SSAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Gates, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, earned her first-career outdoor honor after she produced a PR in the high jump with a jump of 1.45m at the Cal State LA Twilight. Gates is the first Tornado to receive the honor this season.

Williams earned his second conference weekly honor in three weeks after he hit the NAIA "A" qualifying mark in the 4x100 relay and 100m on the week, winning both at the Cal State LA Twilight. The native of North Andros, Bahamas, posted times of 10.39 in the 100m and 40.85 in the 4x100m.

While this is the second recognition for Williams, this is the third overall weekly honor for the men's track and field team, as Emmanuel Niang received acknowledgment for his efforts after the first week of the season.

The men's and women's outdoor track teams are set to compete in the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on April 21-22 in Mobile, Alabama.
