The HBCU Athletic Conference proudly recognizes senior goalkeeper Tariq Singh as the Conference Newcomer. Singh, a psychology major from La Horquetta, Trinidad & Tobago, has quickly made an impact on the pitch with his passion and dedication to the game.
Singh's soccer story began back in Trinidad, where his love for the game grew from a passion for goalkeeping. "I started playing because I loved goalkeeping and wanted to play soccer in college," Singh shared. That dream carried him across borders and into the college game, where he is now proving himself as one of the most promising players in the conference.
Looking ahead to the season, Singh has set both individual and team goals. "Individually, I'd like to have over a 75% save percentage and hopefully be goalkeeper of the year in our conference. As a team, our ambition is to win our conference," he stated. His determination reflects his leadership both on and off the field.
For Singh, success this season is about setting high standards both personally and for his team. "Individually, I'd like to have over a 75% save percentage and hopefully be goalkeeper of the year in our conference. As a team, our ambition is to win our conference," he explained. His focus on excellence shows not just in his saves, but also in the way he motivates teammates to push harder each day.
Off the field, Singh is just as dedicated to his future as he is to his team's present. He is pursuing a degree in psychology, and after graduation, he hopes to remain in the game by becoming a collegiate soccer coach. "After I'm done with college, my goal is to become a collegiate soccer coach to help create opportunities for others the way my coaches gave me opportunities; not only to express myself on the field but to develop holistically as a person," Singh said.
Singh's journey—from La Horquetta to the HBCU Athletic Conference—reflects the power of passion, hard work, and opportunity. As both a student and an athlete, he embodies the conference's commitment to excellence, making him a player to watch not only this season but for years to come.
