The Tornadoes are coming into the 2025 season with some serious buzz. Talladega College men's soccer has been picked as the preseason favorite to win the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) title, and the coaches around the league clearly believe this team is built to make a run.
Talladega grabbed the top spot in the preseason rankings after last year's strong campaign that saw the Tornadoes fight their way to the semifinals of the Continental Athletic Conference Championship. Now, with a stacked lineup returning, expectations are sky-high.
And it's not just about the team ranking—five Tornadoes landed on the Preseason All-HBCUAC Team, more than any other school in the conference:
-
Jalen Smeins (Defender): A rock in the back line who's even played in World Cup qualifiers with Anguilla.
-
Joel Wilson (Defender): Earned All-Tournament honors in 2024 and brings leadership to the defense.
-
Christopher Syms (Forward): Scored four goals last season—always a threat in the attack.
-
Saeed Charles (Forward): An All-CAC Honorable Mention who adds creativity up top.
-
Malachi Daniel (Midfielder): The engine of the offense, expected to drive the Tornadoes' attack this year.
With talent across every position and momentum from last season, the Tornadoes aren't just aiming to compete—they're aiming to make history as the first HBCUAC men's soccer champions.
Talladega fans, get ready. This season could be special.
