The Talladega College men's soccer team opened their 2025 campaign at home against Point University in a fast-paced season opener. Both teams battled evenly through the first half-hour, with the Tornadoes generating attacking opportunities and goalkeeper Tariq Singh making crucial saves, including a standout double stop that kept the match level. The breakthrough came in the 38th minute, when Point University was awarded a penalty, which was calmly converted to give the visiting Skyhawks a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Talladega came out of the break pressing for their first goal of the season, but Point capitalized on their chances, striking twice in a seven-minute span early in the second half before adding a fourth goal in the 70th minute to extend their lead. The Tornadoes responded with determination, as Malachai Daniel scored in the final 20 minutes to get Talladega on the board. Singh continued to play a crucial role in goal, finishing with nine saves on the night. Point later added a fifth, but Talladega closed the scoring with a late strike from Christopher Syms, assisted by Dujon Brown, showcasing the team's resilience and attacking creativity.
Despite the 5-2 setback, the Tornadoes displayed moments of promise, with Singh's goalkeeping heroics and two different scorers making their mark in the season opener. Talladega will look to build on these positives as they continue their 2025 campaign. The Tornadoes' next matchup is against Freed-Hardeman University on August 29.
