The Talladega College women's volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season under new leadership. Head coach Janay Yancey, who officially took over the program on July 1, will guide the Tornadoes alongside assistant coaches Karla McCaskey and Ahmon Catlin.
The Tornadoes will open the season this weekend in Marietta, Georgia, at the Running Eagle Classic. Their first matchup will be against Webber International University as they kick off tournament play.
Talladega brings back key returners who made a big impact last year. Briyith Prado Echeverri, the 2024 HBCUAC Defender of the Year, will once again anchor the defense, while Taquoia Rounds returns after earning a spot on the All-Conference Tournament Team.
New faces are expected to make a difference right away as well. Setter Laela Price, a Division I transfer with experience at both the NCAA and JUCO levels, is known for her leadership and steady presence on the court. Freshman Jadah Powell, an All-State tri-athlete and AISA All-Star, adds versatility and athleticism that should translate well at the college level.
The Tornadoes are coming off a strong 2024 campaign that included a 25-10 overall record, a regular season conference championship, a runner-up finish in the conference tournament, and a trip to the national tournament. That success set the tone for what the program expects to build on this fall.
Coach Yancey arrives with more than a decade of coaching experience and a background as both a standout player and a proven leader. Before coming to Talladega, she spent two seasons at the University of Tennessee Southern, where her teams produced multiple all-conference honorees and AVCA All-Region players. She is passionate about helping athletes grow both on and off the court and is excited to guide this year's team.
With experienced returners, talented newcomers, and a motivated coaching staff, Talladega volleyball is looking forward to another competitive and memorable season.
