Tornadoes Lose at Home to Nationally Ranked SSAC Squad

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Talladega (0-9, 0-7 SSAC) welcomed two nationally ranked conference opponents to town in No. 18 Life (10-2-1, 4-2-1 SSAC) on Thursday and No. 1 Dalton State (12-0-3, 5-0-1 SSAC) on Saturday, the current 5- and 3-seeds in the SSAC standings, respectively.

The Tornadoes fell 9-0 to the Running Eagles and 3-0 to the Roadrunners. Life had 20 players see the field on Thursday afternoon and got braces from Bart Kooistra and Jaime Gonzalez. Only four of the goals were scored by starters and only four were assisted.

Talladega held the visitors to just three points in the first half and got both of its shots on goal from Tyrike Andrews and Jevaughn Smith in the period. Both attempts were stopped by Luka Zakarija, and those would be the Tornadoes' last two bites of the apple. Leonard Richardson guarded the net all 90 minutes and stopped six shots.

Talladega held the top-ranked team in the country to just three goals thanks to Richardson's stellar outing, as he stopped nine of 12 total shots on goal. Unfortunately, he got no help from his offense, as the Tornadoes were outshot 31-1. Justin Riescher and Javier Morejon led the offensive attack with 11 and seven shot attempts, respectively.

Just six seconds after Richardson kept out a Riescher attempt in the 28th minute, Riescher found the back of the net to put the Roadrunners on the board first. Morejon doubled the advantage less than two minutes later. The score nearly stayed at 2-0 for the remainder of the contest, especially as Richardson stopped a Riescher shot in the 79th minute and a penalty kick from him just under a minute later. However, one more attempt from Riescher in the final minute could not be stopped, giving the midfielder a brace.

The Tornadoes wrap up their regular season at home on October 27 against second-seeded and No. 12 William Carey. Talladega will play the Crusaders and watch results around the conference to see if they will be able to qualify for the postseason.
