MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Talladega College men's soccer team held a lead at the halfway point against the Brewton-Parker College Barons, however, two second-half goals proved to be the difference as the Tornadoes fell 2-1 Thursday night in Southern Sports Athletic Conference action.
Gabriel Vielma scored his first goal of the season with 42:27 on the clock unassisted to give Talladega (0-6, 0-4 SSAC) the early lead, which held for nearly 20 minutes before Cesar Lopez scored a goal at the 62:25 mark with an assist from both Derventz Altidor and Jacob Shield to even the match at 1-1.
BPC's (1-8-1, 1-2-0 SSAC) Derventz Altidor broke the tie in 81st with an assist from Sven De Heij to pull ahead for the 2-1 final margin and collect the first win of the season and in the conference for the Barons.
Vielma led the Tornadoes' attack with his goal and went two-for-two in shots on goal.
Leonard Richardson collected four saves against six shots faced. Both teams were aggressive on the pitch as each unit collected double-digit fouls. BPC out-fouled Talladega 15-10, however.
Talladega College will continue the road tour with a trip to Macon, Georgia to take on Middle Georgia State College (0-10-1, 0-3-1 SSAC) on Oct. 15 at noon. The Knights most recently tied with Blue Mountain College on Oct. 13 at home.
