Box Score ALBANY, Ga. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three in a row with a 3-1 (25-15, 18-25, 25-22, 25-12) road victory tonight against NCAA Division II opponent Albany State University. With the win, the Tornadoes are now 7-4 while the Golden Rams fell to 2-3 on the season.
Talladega opened the match with a 4-0 lead before Albany State scored back-to-back points to cut the team to two. The Tornadoes responded as they used a 6-2 run to push their lead to 10-4, but the Golden Rams were able to make it a three-point match and trail, 10-7. Talladega pushed its lead to 14-7 but a 5-1 run by Albany State kept the set close. The Tornadoes after that closed the set out on a 10-3 run to win 25-15 and go up 1-0 in the match.
Both teams found themselves tied at three to start set two, but the Golden Rams broke the tie on a 7-0 run to go up, 10-3. Talladega attempted to chip away to trail 13-12 and later found themselves being tied at 15. The tie didn't last long as Albany State allowed just three points as it went on to win 25-18 and tie the match at one.
Tied at four in set three, Talladega used a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead before both teams ended up tied at 13. Both teams went back and forth to find each other tied four more times before the Tornadoes picked up a 25-22 win and went up 2-1 in the match.
Looking to close things out in set four, the Tornadoes trailed 5-3 before using a 4-0 run to go up, 7-5. Albany State was able to cut the lead to one twice to trail 8-7 but that was as close as the Golden Rams would come as Talladega pushed the lead to, 23-9. The Tornadoes went on to take the set 25-12 and win the match, 3-1.
Talladega as a team registered seven aces to the Golden Rams five aces.
The Tornadoes were led by
Franchesca Rivas, who recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Teammate
Re'na Ashley finished with nine kills of her own.
Giovana Costarelli finished the night with 26 assists, eight digs, and an ace while
Nuria Santos tallied 11 assists of her own.
Talladega is back in action on Thursday, September 19 at 6 pm when it hosts conference rival Rust College.
