Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Campbellsville

TALLADEGA, Ala. –  The Talladega College baseball team split a doubleheader with Campbellsville University this afternoon. The Tornadoes are now 11-10 on the season while the Tigers are 11-6.
Talladega is home tomorrow for the third game of the series with Campbellsville. First pitch is set for noon.

Game 1: Talladega 4, Campbellsville 9 – 7 innings
Campbellsville plated seven runs on five hits in the top of the first to take a 7-0 lead. The Tigers then tacked on another pair of runs in the top of the third to push their lead to, 9-0.

Talladega was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third as it posted two runs on two hits and a Tigers error. It started with one out when Victor Riveria and Darlin Fernandez walked back-to-back. They later came around to score off of Miguel Oropeza's double into the gap in right-center to make it, 9-2.

The Tornadoes added a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to make it a five-run game, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers took game one, 9-4.

As a team, Talladega had three extra-base hits all being doubles.

Oropeza, Armando Jackson, and Nomar Garcia each tallied two hits. Oropeza added two RBIs and Garcia tallied a run scored.

Starter Samuel Guadamuz took the loss to fall to 2-1 on the season. He allowed eight runs on eight hits in two innings of work.

Game 2: Talladega 10, Campbellsville 3
The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead on a pair of hits in the top of the first, but it didn't last as the Tornadoes responded in the bottom half. Talladega's Rivera doubled to right-center and later scored to tie the game at one when Oropeza singled to right, but an error by the Tigers' right fielder allowed Oropeza to take third on the play. He later scored when Isaac Guzman singled up the middle to put Talladega in front, 2-1.

Campbellsville tied the game in the top of the second, but Talladega once again answered as it retook the lead 3-2 on three hits and an error in the bottom part of the frame.

Both teams went scoreless for the next inning and a half until the Tornadoes added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead to, 5-2.

The Tigers were able to get one of the runs back in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3, but Talladega kicked the door down as it pushed five runs across on six hits in the bottom of the sixth and went up, 10-3.

Talladega pitching posted three straight scoreless innings to secure the team's 11th win of the season.

Jose Santiago and Isaac Guzman combined going 6-for-7 with five RBIs, three runs scored, and two doubles.

Jose Franco picked up his fourth win of the season after scattering eight hits in five innings while striking out five. He allowed three runs.
