Baseball Falls to Lindsey Wilson

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Tornadoes looked to go for the sweep but fell 5-2 against Lindsey Wilson College in game three of the series this afternoon. Talladega took the series 2-1. The Tornadoes are now 4-7 on the season while the Blue Raiders are 5-6.

The Blue Raiders struck first as they plated a run on two hits in the top of the first, but Talladega responded in its half of the inning.  It started when Victor Rivera singled to right to start things off for Talladega. He later was moved to second off a sac bunt to first by Darlin Fernandez. Rivera later came around to score off Miguel Oropeza's RBI single into the right-center field gap to tie the game at one. Talladega threatened still but a fielder's choice and a caught stealing ended the threat.

Both teams posted a scoreless second and the Talladega pitching posted a scoreless third against the Blue Raiders.

Talladega took the lead in the bottom of the third when Oropeza parked a solo home run over the right field wall to put the Tornadoes in front 2-1 before the inning ended.

Lindsey Wilson reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth as it posted four runs on two hits and an error to go up, 5-2.

The Blue Raiders pitchers allowed six base runners over the last four innings with no runner getting past second base to secure the win.

Rafael Diaz and Oropeza combined going 6-for-8 with two RBIs, a run scored, a home run, and two doubles for Talladega.

Starting pitcher Helson Fernandez took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. He threw five innings allowing six hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out five for Talladega.
