Baseball Sweeps Lindsey Wilson in Doubleheader

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College baseball team swept the doubleheader portion of the three-game series against Lindsey Wilson College to claim the series. The Tornadoes improved to 4-6 on the season while Blue Raiders are now 4-6.

The Tornadoes throughout the doubleheader tallied three home runs, three triples, and a double.

Armando Jackson finished the day going 4-for-7 with three RBIs, a home run, and a run scored.

Talladega looks to go for the sweep tomorrow against Lindsey Wilson. First pitch is slated for noon.

Game 1: Talladega 15, Lindsey Wilson 8 – 7 Innings
Talladega jumped on the board early when it pushed five runs across in the bottom of the first. Victor Rivera got things rolling off an infield single to second. He later came around to score when Darlin Fernandez tripled to the left-center field gap to make it, 1-0.  Miguel Oropeza's RBI single to the pitcher allowed Fernadez to cross the plate. Oropeza took second off a throwing error by the pitcher on the play. Following a strikeout for the first out of the frame, Jackson singled through the left side to put runners on first and second. Both runners later scored off of Rafel Diaz's triple to right center to make it, 4-0. With twos, Diaz scored off of Jose Santiago's RBI single up the middle to make it 5-0 before the inning ended.

After both teams went scoreless in the second, Talladega added a pair of runs in the third, a run in the fourth, and seven runs in the fifth to go up, 15-0.

Lindsey Wilson attempted a rally as it scored four runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to cut the lead to 15-8 but was unable to overcome the early deficit.

Seven different players tallied two or more hits for Talladega with two of the player finishing with three hits.

Fernandez and Dias combined going 6-for-7 with five runs scored, four RBIs, two triples, and a double for the Tornadoes. Teammate Issac Guzman tallied four RBIs, a run scored, and a grand slam.

Starting pitcher Jose Franco picked up the win to improve to 1-1 on the season. He threw five scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and striking out nine.

Game 2: Talladega 5, Lindsey Wilson 1 – 7 innings
The Talladega offense carried over to game two when the Tornadoes plated three runs in the bottom of the first. With one down in the inning, Fernandez singled up the middle and later moved to second when Oropeza singled to third. Following a strike out for the second out of the inning, Jackson's three-run home run to right put Talladega in front 3-0 before the frame ended.

The Blue Raiders were able to get one of the runs back in the top of the third to make it 3-1, but Talladega got the run back plus more when it scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

The Talladega starter Samuel Guadamuz didn't allow any runners in the last three innings. He pitched a complete game allowing one run on four hits, and no walks while fanning 12 in the process.

Jackson finished the game going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Talladega. Teammate Rivera tallied two RBIs while going 1-for-3.
