HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Talladega College baseball fell 2-1 this afternoon to No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College. The Tornadoes fall to 1-5 while the Grizzlies stay undefeated at 7-0.
Talladega got on the board first as it plated a run in the top of the first. It all started when
Darlin Fernandez singled to right field and then moved to third off of
Victor Rivera's single through the right side. Issac Guzman's RBI single to first with one down allowed Fernandez to cross home to make it 1-0 and send Rivera to third before the inning ended on back-to-back outs.
Talladega pitching posted five straight scoreless innings but headed to the bottom of the sixth the Grizzles used a pair of singles and double to plate a pair of runs and take a 2-1 lead.
The Tornadoes headed to the final inning putting the tying run in scoring position and the go-ahead run on at first with twos. But a fielder's choice ended the Talladega threat and gave GGC its seventh win of the season.
Fernandez, Guzman, and
Nomar Garcia each had two hits apiece for Talladega. Guzman tallied an RBI while Fernandez registered the only run scored.
Talladega starting pitcher
Samuel Guadamuz threw five strong innings allowing no runs and just four hits while striking out three.
The Tornadoes are back in action tonight at 6 p.m. when they face William Carey University
