HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Talladega College baseball falls 2-1 in a no-hitter to host William Carey University tonight. Talladega is now 1-6 on the season while the Crusaders are 5-2.
William Carey took a 1-0 lead after the first inning but Talladega tied things up in the top of the second without recording a hit. It started
Allen Morel and
Jaylen Mateo drew back-to-back walks to start the frame.
Rafael Diaz came in to pinch run for Morel before a wild pitch advanced both runners 90 feet. Talladega loaded the bases when
Jeriel Lamboy walked with no outs. Mateo scored when
Jahir Cruz's RBI ground out to third tied the game at one. Diaz moved to third on the play. The Tornadoes kept the inning going when
Victor Rivera walked with two down before a strikeout ended the threat.
The Crusaders reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when it used a walk, a wild pitch, and two flyouts to go up 2-1.
Talladega had 11 walks as a team in seven innings.
Rivera finished with three walks while Mateo and Morel each had two walks.
Reliever
Helson Fernandez took the loss (0-2) after going 2.2 innings allowing one run while fanning four.
Talladega is back on the road on Tuesday when it travels to Georgia to face Columbus State University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
