Tornadoes Fall at No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a week off, Talladega College hit the road Tuesday to challenge its highest ranked foe of the season, but fell 10-0 at perennial NAIA Baseball World Series contender No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett College.

Andres Puello drew a leadoff walk to open the game, and Nomar Garcia singled with two outs in the second inning, but Talladega left both runners stranded. Garcia's hit was the only of the day for the Tornadoes.

GGC (33-5) took a 2-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the third inning and added a two-run, two-out double in the fourth inning. Gwinnett also scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth to enact the 10-run rule.

Armando Jackson also drew walks in the fourth and seventh innings for Talladega.

Jose Franco (5-1) was hit with his first loss of the season, giving up one run off one hit through 2.2 innings. He struck out three. Helson Fernandez, Samuel Guadamuz and Ramses Ortega each pitched at least one inning for the Tornadoes. Dega's pitching staff gave up seven hits, but only one Grizzly batter had multiple hits.

Tyler Clayton (5-1) pitched the complete-game, one-hit shutout for Georgia Gwinnett. He struck out 10.

The Tornadoes are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll.

Talladega (21-12-1, 11-3 SSAC) will travel to Macon, Georgia this weekend, April 14-15, for a three-game series at Middle Georgia State University (19-18, 7-8). The series will begin Friday at 3 p.m. EDT.
