Tornadoes Complete Sweep at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Talladega College completed its three-game sweep of Brewton-Parker College with a 3-2, weather-shortened win Saturday.

The Tornadoes hit three-straight singles to start the second inning, loading the bases for a Darlin Fernandez RBI fielder's choice. Talladega led 1-0 until Brewton-Parker tied the game with a solo home run by Drew DeMasi in the bottom of the third inning.

Dega was fortunate to regain its lead in the top of the fifth inning before weather set in. Miguel Oropeza delivered a two-out single before two batters were hit by a pitch to load the bases once more. Isaac Guzman then doubled to left field to score two runs and lead 3-1.

BPC answered in the bottom of the fifth. Malik Germany drew a leadoff walk and stole second before taking third on a Jack Morris single. Germany scored on a sac fly to right by Kyran Coleman, but M Gonzalez pitched out of the inning to hold a one-run lead.

Talladega's offense came alive in the sixth inning, but a lightning delay paused and eventually called the game at the end of the last completed inning.

Guzman had two hits to lead Talladega. Gonzalez recorded the win on the mound, allowing two runs off two hits.

Talladega (18-10-1, 8-4 SSAC) is now fourth in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings. The Tornadoes will return to action March 31-April 1 when they travel to Blue Mountain Christian University for a SSAC series.
