Game Recap: Baseball |

Dega and Faulkner Split Conference DH

TALLADEGA, Ala. –  Both teams brought plenty of offense, just not in the same game as the Talladega College baseball team and the visiting Faulkner University Eagles split Sunday's Southern States Athletic Association doubleheader. The Eagles won the first game 9-0, and Dega came away victorious 7-1 in game two, which allowed the Tornadoes to claim the overall weekend series.

GAME ONE – Faulkner 9, Talladega 0

Faulkner (13-13, 4-5 SSAC) came out with revenge on the minds of the Eagles and dominated the first game of the day's seven-inning doubleheader 9-0.

All rubs came in the middle innings, with Faulkner scoring two runs in the second inning, three runs in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth on the way to the 9-0 win.

Joelvin Dilone stole a base during a pinch run appearance in the fourth for Dega (15-10-1, 5-3 SSAC).

Michael Gonzalez (2-2) took the loss. The right-handed freshman threw a pair of strikeouts and allowed 11 hits, three walks, and four earned runs in five innings of work.

Niklas Welson pitched two innings, struck out two batters, and allowed a couple of hits.

GAME TWO – Talladega 7, Faulkner 1

It appeared the Eagles' bats had the potential to stay hot in the rubber match after Jorge Lucero doubled to right centerfield for an RBI as Josh Smith crossed home. However, the run represented the final time Faulkner scored for the weekend.

In the fourth, Juan Gonzalez put Dega on top with an RBI double to left field as Rafael Diaz and Dilone scored to go up 2-1. Dilone scored again in the sixth after an error by the pitcher during Nomar Garcia's at-bat and once more in the eighth after Garcia reached on a fielder's choice.

Jesuette Dominguez added some insurance in the eighth with a two-RBI single to center field to drive in Juan Gonzalez and Garcia. Darlin Fernandez scored on a throwing error by Evan Gilliam to push the score to the 7-1 final.

Diaz finished the game two 3-for-3 at the plate, while Juan Gonzalez and Dominguez knocked in two RBIs. Puello and Dilone each stole a base.

Samuel Guadamuz (2-2) pitched five innings to collect the win with three strikeouts alongside four walks, two hits, and an earned run allowed. Juan Peña went three innings in relief with three strikeouts, while Helson Fernandez threw for the game's final three outs.

Talladega College hits the road next weekend for an SSAC series on March 24-25 in Mount Vernon, Georgia, against Brewton-Parker College.
