MONTGOMERY, Ala. –
Emmanuel Niang of Talladega (Ala.) was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the SSAC office announced Tuesday. The awards are based on performances for the week of Jan. 16-22.
Niang, a junior from Harrisburg, Pa., competed in the 60-meter hurdles twice over the weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. He finished second in the Samford on Saturday, Jan. 21 and won the KMS Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 22 with a time of 8.11.
"I am really proud of Emmanuel. He helps set the standard and allows us to improve as a team on both the conference and national levels," said Ranard Adkison, Talladega track & field head coach.
While this is Niang's first SSAC weekly honor this season, he previously won NAIA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 2-8. He is the second Talladega honor to receive SSAC Track Athlete of the Week honors in the last three weeks the award has been presented.
Christian Louis received the first honor of the season in December.
