JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a battle of two solid Alabama programs, the Talladega College volleyball team defeated Tuskegee University in a thrilling five-set match to wrap the Edward Warters University HBCU Inviatational Tournament today at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The win propelled the Tornadoes to a 5-2 record on the season while the Golden Tigers, a NCAA Division II institution and member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), fell to 0-2.
It took five sets (25-18, 17-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-8) for Talladega, but the team managed to hold off the hungry Tuskegee squad as neither team won a consecutive game.
Kenya Glenn was the clear leader on the back row with 12 digs while the front row had a balanced effort as
Nedu Evans posted two block assists and a solo block, Gates had a solo block and block assist, Sterling added a solo block, and both Sanders and Sawyer had a block
assist each.
Talladega has one more match on the road before opening conference play and hosting the first match of the year in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center. On Sept. 6, the Tornadoes travel to Fairfield, Alabama to take on Miles College, another SIAC opponent. The match is
scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
