TALLADEGA, Ala. – Competing against one of the toughest teams in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the Talladega College volleyball team battled hard but fell in three sets to the Blue Mountain College Toppers Saturday afternoon in the Dr. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
The win for BMC (25-14, 26-24, 25-18) marked the sixth straight for the team and moved their record to 18-2 overall and 6-1 in the SSAC. Talladega fell to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in league competition.
Despite losing in three sets, Talladega had an opportunity to claim a game as the team had a 24-23 lead in the second set. However, the Toppers scored three points from Tornado miscues to secure the game on the way to the victory.
Nedu Evans once again led Talladega College with seven kills while
Mahalynn Sawyer added six kills. The pair also made their presence felt defensively as Sawyer posted 12 digs and Evans came away with a solo block and two block assists.
Maloree Calzadillas put up 13 assists to keep the offense moving.
BMC saw Taylor Wright go for 11 kills while Anna Lucus passed 31 assists.
The Tornadoes will have six days to prepare for an SSAC in-state road trip starting with a match at the University of Mobile Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. with the road trip concluding against Faulkner University Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
