TALLADEGA, Ala. – In their first matchup since 2011, the Talladega College volleyball team came away successful with a straight-set victory over the Stillman College Tigers Friday evening in the Hawkins Student Activity Center.
The Tornadoes (25-7, 25-18, 25-16) improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in league play after the in the Southern States Athletic Conference Game of the Week. Stillman fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-6 in the SSAC.
Talladega started the night in dominant fashion and outscored the Tigers 15-1 in the first set before the teams settled into a more back and forth battle.
Josephine Gates was electric in the three-set match with 14 kills on a .455 attack percentage.
Tianah Sanders finished with nine kills on a .316 attack percentage and added the team's lone solo block at the net.
As a team, Talladega College posted a .207 attack percentage compared to a -.143 percentage for the visiting Tigers.
TiAna Lawrence came away as the team leader in kills for Stillman with three kills while
Katelynn Madison and Grace Fjeldstad both passed three assists each.
The Tornadoes now look forward to a match with Blue Mountain College Saturday in the Hawkins Student Activity Center. The SSAC match is set for a 1 p.m. CDT start.
