TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Talladega College battled for more points on Tuesday night, but the Tornadoes were unable to close out the match in a five-set loss to Miles College at Billy Hawkins Center. After winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-19, Talladega dropped the third set 25-22, and Miles went on to close the match 25-21 and 15-13.
After never leading in the third set, Talladega rallied in the fourth set to go up 18-15 with the help of kills by
Mahalynn Sawyer and
Kirstyn Hayes and two Miles errors. However, Miles went on a six-point run to help close out the set and even the match.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 7-3 in the fifth set, but Dega took the lead at 10-9 and 11-10 on mills by
Mia Sterling and Sawyer. A series of attack errors carried Miles to match point. While Dega worked it to within one point, 14-13, Alexandrea Wright.
Nedu Evans led Talladega with a .371 attack percentage and 17 kills, while Sawyer and Sterling each had 10 kills. Sawyer also had 12 digs.
Raven Clater led Talladega with 22 set assists and
Maloree Calzadillas added a double-double 20 assists and 10 digs.
Wright finished with 15 kills to lead Miles. Kiera Washington and Valeria Lamar had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Talladega (7-6) returns to conference play Friday when it hosts Stillman College at 6 p.m.
