HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Playing their first Southern States Athletic Conference contest on the road for the 2022 season, the Talladega College Volleyball team lost in straight sets to William Carey Friday night at the Ben Waddle Complex.
The Tornadoes fell to 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in SSAC competition while the Crusaders (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) improved to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference after winning their first home match of the season.
Nedu Evans led the Talladega attack with eight kills on a .333 attack percentage while ZyAire-Prettie Garrit added five kills.
Raven Clater and
Maloree Calzadillas both passed eight assists to aid the offense.
Mia Hague led William Carey with 13 kills and Elaina Anderson chimed in with 10 kills. Rachel Hartmann moved the attack effectively with 25 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double.
Kacey Lear led the back row with 12 digs and Jacey Garriga finished with 10 kills as well.As a team, the Crusaders posted a .330 attack percentage compared to a .072 percentage from the Tornadoes.
Talladega College returns to action Sept. 17 against Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with the SSAC match scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in The Den. Links to live stats can be found here and live video is here.
