TALLADEDA, Ala. – The Talladega College volleyball team battled hard in their first home match of the season, but the Life University Running Eagles had all the answers and came away the victors in straight sets Saturday afternoon in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
The Tornadoes fell to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, and Life improved to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference competition.
The Running Eagles claimed victory after winning all three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19.
Josephine Gates led the attack for Talladega with seven kills followed by six kills from Zyaire-Prettie Garrit and five kills from
Mahalynn Sawyer. As a unit, the Tornadoes posted a .106 attack percentage and Gates turned in a solid effort with a .500 attack percentage during the match.
Glenn also made her presence felt on the back row as she posted a team leading 15 digs and was the only Tornado to post double digits in the category.
Life University finished with a .352 attack percentage and Lena Pucnik led the offensive effort with 10 kills. Kennedy Neal passed 25 assists for the Running Eagles.
Talladega College will look to regroup and come back ready for another home SSAC match Sept. 13 as the Brewton-Parker Barons come to town. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start. The Tornadoes won both matchups between the two teams last season with a 3-1 win on Oct. 1,
2021, and a 3-2 victory on Oct. 15. of the same year.
