MACON, Ga. – The Talladega College volleyball team needed five sets to put down the Middle Georgia State College Knights, but the Tornadoes found a way to secure the 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Talladega won the game, 25-21, however, the Knights rallied to take sets two and three, 27-25 and 25-22. In the end, the Tornadoes took the 4th, 25-17, and the decisive 5th set, 15-11, to move to 10-12 on the season and 4-8 in SSAC action.
ZyAire-Prettie Garrit turned in an outstanding performance all over the court for Talladega and posted a double-double with 19 kills and 13 digs alongside four service aces and a block assist.
Nedu Evans,
Mahalynn Sawyer and
Tianah Sanders each racked up nine kills to help move the offense to a .234 attacking percentage.
Raven Clater posted 30 assists and
Maloree Calzadillas added 27 assists.
Kenya Glenn was the star of the back row with 29 digs during the match.
Josephine Gates led the front with two solo blocks while Sanders had three block assists and a solo block and Evens contributed with a solo block and two block assists.
Allison Carter was one of three MGA players with double-digit kills leading the way with 16. Courtney Williamson had 14 kills and Kaitlyn Rogers added 12 kills.
Talladega College will now prepare for three straight home matches including two against SSC opponents starting with William Carey University on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. and then against Loyola University on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
