Talladega, AL – Talladega College Athletic Department is excited to announce Joseph Tibbs as the new head men's and women's soccer coach. He brings impressive coaching experience from the elite club, high school, Olympic Development Program, and collegiate levels
Tibbs most recently served as the head coach for men's soccer at Fisher College in Boston, MA. Tibbs guided the Falcons to the first-ever conference championship in program history in 2018. In addition, 3 student-athletes were named to the NIAC All-Conference team.
Prior to Fisher, he led the team at the University of Maine-Machias, and while there two student-athletes were named to the USCAA (the United States Collegiate Athletic Association) All-American Team, as well as one being named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team.
Tibbs gained invaluable coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels holding assistant coaching positions at St. Bonaventure University, Central Connecticut State University, Southern Connecticut State University, and Southern Virginia University. In addition, he has served as the head coach or staff member of ODP (Olympic Development Program) teams in Alaska, Connecticut, Eastern New York, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Virginia.
At the high school ranks, Tibbs worked with the soccer programs of Choate Rosemary Hall, Hamden Hall Country Day School and the Academy of Lady Mercy, Lauralton Hall in Connecticut. During his time at Lauralton Hall, he served as the head JV and assistant varsity girls soccer coach.
A big supporter of youth soccer, Tibbs has been heavily invested in youth development. He had a successful tenure as the Director of Coaching with the Fredericksburg Soccer Club Inc. (FSCI) in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He helped turn FSCI into a successful community-based club in the Northern Virginia area by creating technical initiatives in player development and coaching education. Tibbs implemented new year-long programming that attracted families from the recreation, academy, and competitive levels. In addition, he appointed the first full-time Youth Academy Director to oversee the development of players ages 5-12 and recruited several new head coaches to lead teams within the competitive select program.
Before FSCI, Tibbs served as Technical Director with the Alaska Rush Soccer Club in Anchorage, Alaska. During his time there, he managed the coaching staff, implemented player development clinics, and was responsible for increasing club standards. In 2011, Tibbs coached the AK Rush U15 Boys to the semifinals of the Alaska State Cup.
In 2013, Tibbs led the DASC U14 girls to the South Dakota State Cup final. That same year, the team were runners up at the US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup held in Overland Park, Kansas.
From 2008-2011, he worked as a professional staff coach with South Central Premier Soccer Club in Connecticut. During that time, South Central was a member of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy program. Tibbs coached several players that participated in the USSDA program, and many of his players have continued their careers at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.
He currently holds a USSF National "C" License, USSF National Youth License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma, and the NSCAA Level II Goalkeeping Diploma. Tibbs is a member of the Black Soccer Coaches Group with the United Soccer Coaches organization. He has also served on the coaching education instructional staff for the Alaska Youth Soccer Association and the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association.
