The Talladega College women's soccer team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, earning a 4-0 road victory over Blue Mountain Christian University on Saturday, August 29.
The Tornadoes moved to 1-0 with the victory after controlling the match on both ends of the field. Talladega outshot Blue Mountain Christian 21-5 and held a commanding 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Cycoiah Wattley led the Talladega attack with two goals, while Shamya Daniels and Annalise Vincent each added a goal. Amelia Tiggs and Mikayla Stutts contributed two assists apiece, while Vincent also recorded an assist.
Talladega applied pressure throughout the opening half, creating several scoring opportunities before Wattley broke through for the Tornadoes. Tiggs and Vincent combined to assist on the opening goal, sending Talladega into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. The Tornadoes generated 10 shots during the first half while limiting Blue Mountain Christian to four.
The Tornadoes took complete control after the break.
Wattley struck again early in the second half, converting an opportunity created by Stutts to give Talladega a 2-0 advantage.
Talladega continued to pressure the Blue Mountain Christian defense, and Daniels soon added the Tornadoes' third goal of the match off an assist from Tiggs.
The Tornadoes continued creating opportunities throughout the second half. Rebecca Melo nearly added another goal when one of her attempts hit the crossbar. Talladega eventually found the back of the net for a fourth time when Vincent scored off Stutts' second assist of the match to complete the 4-0 victory.
Vincent was a constant threat for Talladega, finishing with a team-high six shots and four shots on goal. Melo recorded five shots, while Wattley finished with four shots, three on goal and two goals. Tiggs also played a key role in Talladega's offensive pressure, contributing two assists and helping the Tornadoes generate several opportunities from corner kicks.
Talladega finished the match with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, further highlighting the Tornadoes' ability to maintain possession and keep pressure on the Blue Mountain Christian defense.
The Talladega defense was equally impressive. Goalkeeper Javanae Jone played the full 90 minutes and recorded two saves to secure the clean sheet. The Tornadoes limited Blue Mountain Christian to just five total shots and two shots on goal for the match.
With four goals from three different players and five assists, Talladega displayed a balanced attack to go along with a strong defensive performance in its season-opening victory.
The Tornadoes begin the 2026 campaign 1-0 and will look to build on the momentum as they continue their early-season schedule.
