Talladega College split a non-conference doubleheader with the University of Mobile on Tuesday, earning a 14–7 victory in Game 1 before falling 7–5 in the nightcap.
Game 1 – Talladega 14, Mobile 7
The Tornadoes used a big second and third inning to take control of the opener.
After an RBI groundout by V. Rivera gave Talladega a 1–0 lead in the first, the offense erupted in the second inning. J. Catala delivered an RBI triple, and A. Jackson followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4–0.
Talladega added four more runs in the third behind RBI singles from A. Epps and E. Payne, along with a sacrifice fly from Catala.
The Tornadoes finished with 14 runs on 14 hits.
A. Jackson led the way, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored. A. Epps added three RBI, while Rivera and Payne each recorded multiple RBI.
J. Munos earned the win on the mound, striking out three in three innings of work. The bullpen combined to secure the victory.
Game 2 – Mobile 7, Talladega 5
Game 2 was tightly contested throughout.
Talladega answered Mobile's early run in the first inning when M. Martinez delivered an RBI to tie the game. The Rams regained the lead with a two-run home run in the third, but the Tornadoes responded with RBI efforts from Rivera and Martinez to stay within striking distance.
Talladega tied the game at 5–5 after scoring in the fourth and fifth innings. However, Mobile hit a two-run homer in the seventh to secure the 7–5 win.
J. Catala and Rivera each recorded two hits in the second game.
Talladega will return to action on Thursday, February 19, traveling to face Point University Skyhawks in a road matchup.
