TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Talladega College baseball team fell on the road 9-1 to conference and instate rival Stillman College this afternoon. With the win today, the Tigers take the season series 2-1. The Tornadoes are now 26-14 and 18-3 in the HBCUAC, while Stillman moves to 17-18 and 16-8 in the conference.
Following a scoreless first inning for both teams, Talladega struck first when
Isaac Guzman singled and
Jahir Cruz scored off an error by the left fielder to take a 1-0, after he singled himself to open the inning.
Stillman responded in the fourth when it tied the game 1-1 off a passed ball. The Tigers, after that, broke the game open with three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to take a 9-1 lead.
The Tigers' starting pitcher tossed a complete game and allowed one run on five hits and no walks.
Starter
Nomar Caraballo took the loss on the mound for Talladega, falling to 1-1 on the season. He allowed four runs on five hits in five and a third innings of work. He struck out three in the process.
Cruz paced all Talladega hitters, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Victor Rivera, Guzman, and
Jonathan Williams each tallied a hit apiece.
Talladega is back on the road this weekend when it travels to New Orleans to open a three-game conference series with Southern University at New Orleans. The series will open on Saturday with the doubleheader part of the series
