OXFORD, Ala. – The Talladega softball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday, taking the opener against Crowley's Ridge 5-0 before dropping the nightcap by a final of 8-4.
Miani Burton led the way for the Tornadoes in Game One, going 3-for-4 with a double at the plate. Talladega got contributions from the entire lineups, as
Emma Givens,
Jazzmeen Bibbins and
Beautiful Curry added two hits apiece and
Georgia Wagner-Stiles drove in three of the team's runs.
Sofi Wagner-Stiles went the distance and picked up the win in the circle, surrendering just two hits and fanning 13 Crowley's Ridge hitters along the way. The win is her third in four days after picking up a pair of wins in last weekend's series against Voorhees.
Crowley's Ridge erupted for five runs early in Game Two and never looked back despite Talladega belting out another ten hits as a team.
Mia Vazquez turned in two hits from the leadoff spot in the Talladega order, while
Sofi Wagner-Stiles helped her own cause with two knocks of her own.
Wagner-Stiles tossed another four scoreless innings and added seven strikeouts to close out the day in relief of starter
Miranda Butler.
