HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Talladega softball team picked up a pair of close wins on Thursday, defeating Oakwood in a non-conference twin bill. The Tornadoes took the opener 2-1 before lightning shortened the nightcap with Talladega in front 8-6.
Talladega struck first in Thursday's action, as
Georgia Wagner-Stiles came up with a two-out RBI single in the second inning.
Jazzmeen Bibbins' base knock to left plated a second run in the top of the sixth, providing enough cushion for the Tornadoes to overcome an Oakwood run in the final frame.
Bibbins led the offense with three hits, while
Sofi Wagner-Stiles added two more to help her own cause. Wagner-Stiles picked up the win in the circle after going the distance and fanning a season-high 13 hitters.
Game Two produced much more offense, with Talladega again plating a run in the second before following with three straight two-run innings and an insurance run in the sixth. Oakwood did the bulk of their damage in a five-run fifth, but the Tornadoes once again held on for the victory.
Shortstop
Mia Vazquez went 4-for-4 at the dish, while
Beautiful Curry produced another three hits.
Addison Fields and Kaylen Washington each picked up two base knocks, as eight different Tornadoes recorded a hit in Thursday's finale.
The Tornadoes have now won four of their last five games, outscoring opponents 26-17 in that span. Talladega is back in action on Saturday, when they take on Rust for the opener of a three-game series.
