Softball Falls Twice in Non-Conference Doubleheader to UTS

OXFORD, Ala. - Talladega College Softball hosted its first non-conference games in almost a month on Tuesday, falling to the University of Tennessee Southern 8-0 and 14-3 at Choccolocco Park.
 
In the first game, Mia Vazquez hit 2-for-3 to lead Talladega, while Georgia Wagner-Stiles had one hit. UTS produced a three-run first inning and four-run fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Firehawks added a run in the sixth to end the game early. Six UTS players had multiple hits. Sofi Wagner-Stiles recorded the loss in the circle. She struck out four.
 
UTS scored in each inning in the second game, building a 14-0 lead through the top of the fifth inning. Vazquez drove in the Tornadoes' first run of the day with a bases-loaded ground out to second that scored Kayhlen Washington. Emma Givens then singled to right to score Neely Damron and Beautiful Curry. Dega was not able to rally enough to avoid the run-rule. Curry finished with a 2-for-2 game at the plate. Washington, Givens and Georgia Wagner-Stiles each had one hit. Miranda Butler recorded the loss.
 
Talladega (5-14) will return to HBCU Athletic Conference action this weekend in Denmark, South Carolina for a three-game series at Voorhees University on April 5-6.
