OXFORD, Ala. – The Talladega softball team was tripped up on Sunday, falling 5-4 in extra innings of the series finale at the hands of Dillard. The loss drops the Tornadoes to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in HBCUAC play.
Dillard plated three runs in the top of the third to take the first lead of the day, but Jazzmeen Bibbens came up with a two-RBI single in the following frame to pull Talladega even. The Bleu Devils moved in front 4-3 in the sixth, but the Tornadoes again answered, as Sofia McPhie's one-out double turned into the tying run with the home team down to their final out.
The Bleu Devils manufactured a run in the top of the eighth, and Talladega was unable to answer despite advancing the tying run to third base in the home half.
McPhie led the Tornadoes with another multi-hit performance from the top of the lineup, while Bibbens' two RBI were a team-high. Sofi Wagner-Stiles went the distance in the circle for Talladega, picking up five strikeouts along the way.
The Tornadoes are back in action this coming weekend, when they head to Holly Springs to take on Rust in another HBCUAC series. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
