TALLADEGA, Ala. - The Talladega College baseball team completed the three-game series with a 10-0 run-rule victory over conference rival Oakwood University this afternoon. The Tornadoes are now 23-8 and 17-1 in conference play while Oakwood is 0-22 and 0-12 in the HCBUAC.
The Tornadoes looked to get on the board in the first to take control of the game.
Sebastian Pizarro opened the frame with a single but was thrown out trying to steal second following a flyout for the first two outs.
Miguel Oropeza kept the inning alive with an infield single to short. He later moved to second when
Jahir Cruz walked. Both runners moved up 90 feet following a double steal to put themselves into scoring position.
Fernando Crisostomo's two-run single plated both runners to make it, 2-0. He later lifted for pinch runner Joshua Catala Santos. Santos stole second but a throwing error by the catcher allowed him to score from second to push the lead to, 3-0.
Talladega added two runs in the bottom of the second to push its lead to 5-0 using four hits. The Tornadoes continued to tack on a run in the fourth, two in the fifth to go up, one in the seventh, and one in the eighth to push the lead to 10-0.
Oakwood in the first five innings recorded a hit and a walk while in the later innings tallied two hits.
Daniel Jose picked up his third win of the season for Talladega to improve to 3-2. He struck out six, walked one, and gave up one hit over five innings of work. Reliever
Dewinel Vazquez fanned six while giving up two hits in three innings.
Pizarro paced all Talladega hitters with three hits. He added a walk and RBI to the mix.
Oropeza, Crisostomo, and Jederick Velazquez combined for 6-for-12, with three RBIs, three runs scored, a double, and three stolen bases.
Talladega continues the home stand on Tuesday, March 25 when it hosts Faulkner University at 1 p.m.
