Volleyball Makes It Five in a Row

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team tallied its fifth straight win with this one coming on the road in a 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-20, 25-9) victory over NCAA Division II Miles College tonight. The Tornadoes moved to 13-6 while the Golden Bears fell to 0-9 on the season.

Miles took an early 6-2 in the first set but Talladega tallied back-to-back points to cut it to a two-point game. Both teams went back and forth where the Golden Bears held the edge 10-9, but the Tornadoes used a 5-4 run to tie the set at 14. Each team was tied again at 16 then again at 17 before one last time at 22. Talladega took the lead off a Franchesca Rivas' kill to make it 23-22 but Miles answered with a kill of their own to tie things back up. Rivas again put the Tornadoes in front off of a kill to make it 24-23, but the Golden Bears tallied back-to-back points to take the set, 26-24.

Talladega took an early 2-0 lead in set two but later found themselves tied at nine before Miles took a 10-9 lead. The Tornadoes responded with a 6-0 run to go up 15-10, but the run was snapped when the Golden Bears tallied a pair of points to make it, 15-12.  Talladega closed the set out on a 10-3 run to win the set 25-15 and tie the match at one.

The Tornadoes grabbed an 8-2 lead to open up the third set. Miles used a 4-1 run to get back into it and trail 9-6, but it wasn't enough as Talladega pushed its lead to, 15-9. The Golden Bears attempted to chip away at the lead as they would score the next four of the six points, but would still trail, 17-13. Both teams traded points but Miles was unable to close the gap as Talladega took the set 25-20 and went up 2-1 in the match.

Looking to close things out in set four, the Tornadoes once again jumped to an 8-2 lead before Miles tallied three straight points to cut the lead to three. Talladega answered with a 7-0 run to push its lead to 15-5 and later put together another run (6-1) to go up, 21-6. The Tornadoes claimed the set 25-9 and secured the 3-1 match win.
