TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the HBCUAC play with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-12) victory over visiting Rust College. The Tornadoes are 8-4 overall on the season while Rust falls to 0-7 and 0-1 in the conference.
Talladega wasted no time in the opening set as it jumped out to a 13-3 lead. Rust was able to register back-to-back points to trail by eight but the small bit of momentum was erased as Talladega used a 12-2 run to close the set out with a 25-7 win and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In set two, the Tornadoes leaped to a 19-3 lead before Rust was able to record its fourth point of the set. With a 19-4 lead, Talladega closed things out with a 6-3 run to win 25-7 and go up 2-0.
Looking to close things out in set three, Rust kept the match close as it trailed 5-4, but a 10-0 Talladega run pushed its lead to, 15-4. The Tornadoes made sure to end the match as it used a 10-8 run to win 25-12 and win the match 3-0.
Talladega hit .431 for the match with a set-high .520 in set two. The Tornadoes tallied 37 kills to Rust's eight.
As a team, Talladega finished with nine aces with
Franchesca Rivas led all Tornadoes with four.
Josephine Gates paced all Talladega players with eight kills while
Marcelly Perez tallied seven of her own. Perez also registered two blocks.
Nuria Santos finished with a team-high 20 assists for the Tornadoes while teammate
Giovana Costarelli recorded 15 of her own.
Talladega is back in action on Saturday when it travels to face conference foe Fisk University at 11 a.m.
