NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team fell 3-2(21-25, 25-23-25-14, 22-25, 8-15) to Fisk University in HBCUAC action this morning. The Tornadoes moved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference while the Lady Bulldogs to 10-10 and 3-0 in the HBCUAC.
Both teams found themselves tied at eight in the first set and then again six more times but this time at 15. Fisk then used a 5-2 run to break the tie and take a 20-17 lead. Talladega was able to cut the lead to two and trail 21-19 but that was as close it would come as the Lady Bulldogs won, 25-21.
Fisk wasted no time in set two as it grabbed an 11-4 lead but Talladega worked its way back into the set to cut things down to 21-17. The Tornadoes then were able to string together an 8-2 run to win the set 25-23 and tie the match at one.
The Tornadoes opened the third setup with an 11-5 lead and then pushed its lead to, 18-8. Fisk used a 5-0 run to cut into the lead and trail 18-13, but that is as close as it would get. Talladega then used a 7-1 run to win 25-14 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Trailing in the match, Fisk started things off hot in set four as it grabbed an 11-5 lead. The Tornadoes worked their way back into it but still trailed, 15-10. The Lady Bulldogs pushed their lead to 21-15, but Talladega responded with three straight points to trail, 21-18. The Tornadoes were able to cut the lead to two twice but couldn't overcome the early lead by Fisk as they fell 25-22 and were headed to a fifth set.
Fisk wasted no time taking control in the fifth set as it grabbed a 9-3 lead. The Tornadoes used a 4-2 run to trail 11-7, but that was as close they would come as the Lady Bulldogs took the set 15-8 and won the match 3-2.
Franchesca Rivas registered a double-double with 19 kills and 12 digs to lead the Tornadoes. Teammate
Stella Lukaszuk finished with a team-high five aces while tallying 16 digs.
Giovana Costarelli led the team in assists with 23 while
Nuria Santos recorded 15 assists of her own. Costarelli also tallied two aces.
Briyith Echeverri paced Talladega with 18 digs.
