MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 1 Talladega College baseball team downed No. 2 Bluefield State University 3-2 in its second game of the 2024 Black College World Series this morning. The Tornadoes are now 38-15 while Bluefield State drops to 31-15 on the season.
Both teams went scoreless for the first four and a half innings until Talladega's
Allen Morel parked a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to put the Tornadoes up, 1-0.
Bluefield State tied the game in the top of the sixth off three hits but the game didn't stay tied long as Talladega used a double to right center, a sac bunt, and a sac fly to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh.
Bluefield State once again tied the game as it used a pair of hits to tie the game two in the top of the eighth.
The Tornadoes answered in their half of the eighth when
Miguel Oropeza tripled down the right field line with one down. He later scored off of
Jeriel Lamboy's bunt single to put Talladega up 3-2 before the inning ended.
Bluefield State went down in the order in the top of the ninth when
Juan De Dios closed the game out for Talladega to earn his fourth save of the season.
Reliever
Jack Wood picked up his first win of the season. He allowed two hits and one run (earned) over 2.1 innings of work while fanning one.
Starting pitcher
Daniel Jose went three strong innings not allowing a hit while striking out two.
Morel finished the day going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, a home run, and a double. Teammate Oropeza tallied two triples while going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Talladega is back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m..
